Things I don't understand about packaged foods
Sunday, October 9, 2011
Hi all,
No one should be reading this at the moment, because you should all be studying and memorising your essays! No, I'm joking, I really hope no one is pushing themselves too hard and seriously guys, take a break after 40 minutes. It's like driving!
STOP
REVIVE
SURVIVE
Your brain can only take in a particular amount of information in one go, and it gets tired after 40 minutes, so it's actually a waste of time if you keep going. Your brain will not be functioning in it's optimum level, and will eventually denature - and I seriously cannot stop relating bio/ancient/legal/VA to my everyday life! It's terrible.
Anyway:
THINGS THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT PACKAGED FOOD
1) Why they keep the gross flavours in lolly packs
THIS, I really do not understand.
eg.
The 'cherry' (fuck me, tastes like bad kid's medicine!) flavour in Starburst Chews
The random dark green 'lime' flavoured lollies
LIQUORICE in jellybeans
WHY WHY WHY
Why do they ruin a perfectly good bag of lollies by putting in terrible flavours? Okay- I understand that a tiny handful of people like those flavours (and good for you because it means that there's more for you when you're sharing with others) but they are very clearly the MINORITY! Each time we share packets of lollies those flavours always always remain. The packet comes to you, you reach one out realise it is a flavour you don't particularly like, put it back in, pick another one out, realise its the same, look in the bag, and then realise - they are all the same! It's just a waste! And no one (except for that small minority of people who like them) benefits from it! Not even the manufacturers.
Bringing me to the next point:
2) Why companies fill up your chip packet with about 90% air
Okay, it's pretty obvious why they do it - to make money etc. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to express my rage towards it!
Worst offender of them all: Grain waves
Buy a packet, open up and there are TEN freaking grain waves in a packet! It's not even an exaggeration, there are literally TEN of them in there (btw - talking about the small packets) I don't give a shit if you're made of grain or corn or wheat or whatever the fuck they're made of, but seriously - ten?
And apart from ripping us off because there are only TEN chips in the bag, they then claim that LESS THAN 10 GRAMS OF FAT. Well that's probably because there isn't even 10 grams of product in the pack! Revelation of the century: All this low fat bullshit isn't low fat because they've changed the recipe to be more healthy, but because they replace most of the product with air! Great, innovative work you snack food companies. Before you know it, they'll be selling single chips by the packet.
I have more to say but I will save it for later or else I will never finish my list of things to do D:
Good luck studying friends!
